What is Hypnosis?
In order to get a better understanding of how hypnosis works, I wanted to explain what it actually is and what I do!
Many people have the misconception that hypnosis is some kind of woo-woo mind control - Let’s admit it, we have all thought this at some point! … On the contrary though, true clinical hypnotherapy is anything but.
"Hypnosis is extreme physical relaxation coupled with an elevated state of mental awareness"
While hypnosis may appear to look like sleep, it’s actually meditation with a goal …
From this state of deep stillness, you are able to go deeper and further into the recesses of your mind where over 90% of what you need to give up, get over, or what you need to build a new habit, actually lives … in your subconscious
Psychotherapist, Dr. Noah Kass, Clinical Director at NY Health Hypnosis and Integrative Therapy said, according to research studies “Hypnosis has a 93% success rate with less sessions needed than with stand-alone approaches such as behavioural therapy, traditional talk therapy or psychotherapy"
This led researchers to believe that for changing habits, thought patterns, and actual behaviour, "hypnosis was not only the most effective method, but that it needed less time and less sessions than other forms of therapy"
What all this means of course, is that your solution doesn’t have to be long months or years away as it can be with some forms of therapy, in many cases, just one program with The Chameleon Clinic, which is between two and five months, is enough to rid you of your issue, and even for deep rooted issues, long buried traumatic events and multiple linked issues, I would expect a programme lasting between 3 and 6 months to be more than enough to give you back your freedom.
If you are wondering what the mechanics of your brain are, during hypnosis, its very simple …
Your brain wave patterns change and are slowed down to a theta state, similar to that of dreaming. At this point, your subconscious mind is open and willing to accept new programming in a way that it cannot during consciousness …
Is all hypnotherapy the same?
No!
There are different 'types' of hypnotherapy, different approaches and different applications. Some hypnotherapists combine their practice with yoga for example, which is especially good for those clients looking for relaxation and self-awareness, while others offer coaching and mentoring - especially those that work within the corporate world, helping those that are looking for business success.
Hypnosis is a modality that has been around for many thousands of years, and inevitably it has developed, diversified and changed, whilst maintaining the basic principles of total relaxation and access to the subconscious mind.
Having an area of particular skill, interest or expertise is one way that the therapist attracts their perfect clients - a way of knowing that they are working with people they can truly help. Which is why I don’t work with dozens and dozens of different issues … and of course, more importantly, it helps the client decide who would be the best 'fit' for them and ultimately for their success in ridding them of their issue.
The type of hypnotherapy offered at The Chameleon Clinic is quite unique, combining various therapy modalities blended seamlessly with hypnotherapy. Drawing from the most effective elements of CBT, NLP and Psychotherapy along with and including parts therapy, guided imagery, neuroplasticity, healing words, verbal repetition and counselling. Each programme and selection of modalities used, is chosen specifically for the individual client.
Meaning that, not only do we go looking to the subconscious to re-programme with new thoughts and ideas, but, more importantly, we are able to 'deal with and fix' what we find while we are there, getting rid of outdated beliefs and negative thought patterns, for good.
These combined tools and skills are used to help my clients with a whole list of issues, with my particular areas of interest and experience in, but not limited to, things that clients have often thought of as something 'that they just have to live with' because other approaches haven't been successful for them …
Promoting positive behaviours is where a lot of my work begins, such as building confidence, calming anxieties and increasing motivation, as well as helping clients recover from addictions, phobias and fears.
I am truly passionate about being able to show clients a way that allows them to live the rest of their lives in a free and empowered way.
Issues around sexual problems, overcoming trauma, sexual abuse, childhood abuse and dysfunctional family living, are issues often said to be difficult for people to overcome, and are avoided by many therapists, but these absolutely aren’t things you have to live with. With my unique hybrid therapy, I am able to give clients a powerful and life changing experience, to be able to start afresh, without these past hurts hanging over them.
Issues around disordered eating can be utterly life destroying, changing the way someone has to live their life to accommodate an eating pattern that isn’t ‘the norm’ can be exhausting and impacts on all areas of their life. Often the disordered eating, isn’t really about food at all, and for many people, hypnosis allows them to find an answer that they haven’t been able to find in any other way.
Teens and young people, often live with anxiety, and other developmental issues whilst trying to cope with the transition from childhood to adulthood. Social anxiety, depression and feelings of being 'not enough' sadly, in today's world are very common and very real issues. Changing the future life of young clients changes their family’s lives too, so can bring lasting relief to the whole family.
There are obviously as many issues as there are people, and we don't all fit in a box with a neat lable, please do reach out to ask questions and we can look at whether we would be a good fit for me to help you find your solution, to your issue.
If you’re still on the fence about hypnotherapy, rest assured that you would be in good company by trying it, Mozart composed the opera “Cosi fan tutte” while hypnotised. Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity was born during one of his self-hypnosis sessions. Tiger Woods used hypnosis to help keep him focused on and off the golf course and other, well known fans include Julia Roberts, Jackie Kennedy and Ellen DeGeneres.
